DELAWARE SOCCER CLUB
Travel Team Tryout Policy
The Delaware Soccer Club holds tryouts for its Travel teams each fall. Travel soccer requires a higher commitment on the part of the player and parents, and can be quite competitive in the higher levels. The Delaware Soccer Club will try to provide as many players as possible the opportunity to join a Travel league team at an appropriate level. However, both parents and players must understand that the Buffalo Western New York Junior Soccer League (BWNYJSL) (our governing body for travel soccer) has strict limits on team roster sizes, which may result in some players not being placed on a Travel team. As of 2008, the roster sizes for each age group are as follows:

Tryouts are mandatory, and serve four purposes that allow DSC to plan for the upcoming season. Tryouts are held for the following reasons:
- Tryouts allow DSC to form our new U10 teams for Boys and Girls. This process begins at the end of the Spring House season, when players in the U9 and U10 age group are provided information about travel soccer. Then, tryouts in the fall allow us to determine the demand for new travel teams in the youngest age groups.
- Tryouts allow current players to affirm their commitment to return to their current team. However, there are no guarantees that a player will automatically continue with their current team. Coaches should communicate to current players whether or not there are new players trying out for the team who may displace incumbent players.
- Tryouts provide an opportunity for players to either move to another team in their age group, or to move up one year in age. However, under both of these scenarios, the coaches of both teams must be in agreement that the changing of teams is in the best interest of the player.
- Tryouts provide an opportunity for new players to join the travel program. DSC does not have any restrictions on residency, so children from adjoining communities are welcome to tryout. Children who have recently moved to the area are also welcome to join the program. However, given the roster restrictions noted above, there are no guarantees that new players will be placed on a team.
The club will contact all players who tryout by October 19. If for some reason you are not contacted, please contact the DSC office (833-3616) to discuss the status of your child.
Parents should also note that an initial payment is due by December 1 following notification of placement on a team. If a player has not made a payment or payment arrangements by this date, the roster position may be made available to a player on the waiting list.
