It’s November - & as trainer Rudy Pikuzinski reminded the team, it’s not about how you’re playing at the beginning of the season - just the same, the team played solid soccer - the impact of new team members Ariana Mendel & Alexis Koral was immediately felt - & it was a fun to catch up w/ good friends again after a couple month break.
There were 8 excellent teams that opened their ’07-’08 season at Sahlen’s 1st indoor elite tournament of the year. The girls squared off against the Greece Eclipse, Northern Missassaugua Soccer Club, the Rochester Jr. Rhinos, & Rochester Football Club in the finals.
The story of the day was Coach K2 - not Daniel J. Krzyzanowicz who’ll be taking over in the spring - but father Mario Kroese who stepped behind the bench for game 1 & the finals to help out - Super Mario carried his unblemished record forward once again showing his knack for pressing all the right buttons ("water?")...
After a 4 month break, it’s great to see how the girls have grown and play improved - Lexi Pace was great every time she stepped on the field, & Alison showed the benefits of her fall experience playing for City Honors scoring a very nice goal in the finals. Jenna & Jenna were - well - Jenna & Jenna - terrific all day long.
The only sad note of the day was learning of an injury to one of the (if not the) best players we saw last year - a player on the Rochester Jr. Rhinos who is a flat out star - we wish her a speedy & complete recovery.
