BUFFALO, N.Y. (June 8, 2017) - Congratulations to the many Delaware Soccer Club alums competing in the New York State West State Cup this weekend, as the GPS New York Boys U12s posted nine goals in three wins to earn the championship. The roster included five DSC alums who joined the team through the club’s partnership with Global Premier Soccer.
Hosted on the campus of SUNY Cortland, former DSC players Vincent DiBello, Issa Kowa, Alex Bonuito, Caleb Suckow and Leo Christiano took to the field early Saturday morning earning a hard-fought 1-0 victory over EUSA Buffalo/Lancaster. The team continued its strong play that afternoon with a 5-2 win over Syracuse DA Blue. In Sunday’s championship, the group posted a 3-1 win over EUSA Rochester to secure the cup.
In addition, three DSC alumnae on the GPS-NY Elite Girls U15 team, Eliza Roach, Emma Klein and Emma Donovan, each contributed to a strong second-place finish in their division. After a 3-2 win over EUSA Rochester, the club met the eventual champion Syracuse Development Academy, falling, 3-0, before bouncing back with a 3-0 victory over the Hamburg Monarchs.
The State Cup is the first step in the United States Youth Soccer Association National Championship series held each year to determine the best teams in the country. With the State Cup victory, the champions will advance to this year’s regional championships, June 29-July 4 in Virginia. Teams winning there go on to the National Championships.
For more than 40 years the Delaware Soccer Club has been promoting the development of youth in the Buffalo community through participation in athletic competition. Over 1,000 players participate annually in numerous soccer leagues, camps and clinics for all age groups and all levels of play.
