Hello team!
For those of you returning to my team, welcome back, and for the new recruits, we are glad to have you on the Hornets!
There are a few things that need to be organized for the team:
1. We need to organize indoor training sessions; If anyone has any ideas about where we could meet, as in a local schools gym, a church's gymnasium, or anywhere else indoors that we could practice that would be very helpful for the team. Melissa Delgado, Canaan's Mom, who is returning as team secretary, has suggested a local church gym that might be available, and we are working on getting permission to use the space. If there are any other ideas, please email them to me.
2. We must discuss if the team would like to participate in some local tournaments. A lot of these tournaments have registration deadlines that are coming up. I would like to do at least one tournament this summer, and possibly more than that depending upon players' availability and fund raising concerns.
3. The Club sponsors indoor training sessions with its director of training Orville Roberts, at Sahlens Sports Park in Elma. These are starting up in February and the information is posted on this website. I will find out more detailed info and pass it along.
4. We have a full roster of 23 players for our squad this summer. Per league rules, we can only dress 18 players per game. This means that, for every game, 5 players will not dress and will be healthy scratches. I will be determining my game day roster simply based upon attendence at practice. That is not to say that practice attendence is mandatory, but if you do not attend, you might not be in the gameday lineup. Last year, we were basically running on a shoestring and were somewhat disorganized in terms of team administration. This was due to last season being my first coaching travel and also with some miscommunications between the club and myself that have been ironed out now for the new season. Accordingly, all rules and procedures will be adhered to this season regarding rosters, practices and uniforms. The club is going to be getting each player new uniforms which include two jerseys, two pairs of socks and shorts. I need every player's jersey size to give to the league so they get the right size. We will no longer be allowed to switch jerseys around and we will have to follow the rules by the book.
I am looking for a strong commitment from the squad for this season. Although we are the Club's "B-team" for the age group, I believe we have just as strong a squad as the "A-team" and I am looking forward to competing and winning many games, including in tournaments. This is why I believe that practices will be very important and that they should start soon.
